Getting Started
Welcome to Keeb, a Hack Club you-ship-we-ship project where you learn to build your own mechanical keyboard from scratch.
What You’ll Build
A fully functional mechanical keyboard(We suggest a 60% or 65% layout if this is your first time), including:
- Custom PCB: designed for this project
- Case & plate: everything to house your board
What You’ll Purchase (With the Grant)
- Mechanical switches: your choice of linear, tactile, or clicky
- Keycaps: a clean, no-nonsense keycap set
- USB-C cable: to connect to your machine
How It Works
- Start a Github repo: Create a Github repo where you will record all your process, uplaod your cad, and write a readme about your project.
- Read through these docs: learn about the parts, the process, and what to expect
- Follow the build guide: step-by-step instructions from unboxing to typing. Then Add your own twist if you want! The crazier, the better.
- We ship you the parts: once you’re ready, we send everything to your door
- Build it: solder, assemble, flash, and you’ve got a custom keyboard
Prerequisites
No prior experience required. If you can hold a soldering iron, you can do this. The guide covers everything from basic soldering technique to firmware flashing.
Next Steps
Start by setting up your GitHub repo, then check out the Grants page to see what parts you are allowed to use.
